HAITI RELIEF
The situation in Haiti right now is still in a state of emergency. Only those who have specific skills and training are permitted access to Haiti. Add to that the collapse of their airport and main shipping port, it is even difficult to get trained First Responders into Haiti to help. There are teams of physicians, nurses and other medical people that are waiting for permission to arrive.
It looks like the first work teams that will be permitted entrance to Haiti will be going late spring to early summer. These first teams will be allowed in only if they are under the leadership of someone that has prior work team experience in Haiti. They do not want teams in Haiti that cannot be self sufficient. If you are interested in being part of a work team to Haiti later, please get in touch with Rev. Tom Clark.

While Haiti will be a destination for work teams in 2010 and many years beyond, the work of West Virginia United Methodist Volunteers In Mission will still continue to offer work teams into other parts of the world. Click on the "Where We Are Going" button for a list of 15 work teams offered for 2010. In addition, the Oak Hill United Methodist Church has a very active ministry of housing repair for families in Fayette County. We currently have 13 teams lined up to come to Oak Hill from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Maryland, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. If you looking for a way to get your youth involved in mission and ministry you don't have to look very far. |
